Indukantham Kashayam (Kwatham) – Indukantam Syrup

Indukantham Kashayam is a classical ayurvedic medicine prepared through water decoction method. It is available in concentrated liquid form (Indukantam Syrup) and dried water extract in tablet form (Indukantham Kashayam Tablets). It benefits in abdominal disorders including abdominal spasms, intestinal gas, bloating, abdominal distension and loss of appetite. It provides strength, increases immunity and improves complexion and glow.

Indukantham Kashayam contains similar herbal ingredients as described in Indukantham Ghee in Sahasrayogam.

  5. Oroxylum Indicum – Shyonaka
  6. Stereospermum Suaveolens – Patala
  7. Gmelina Arborea – Gambhari (Beech wood/Kasmari)
  8. Solanum Indicum – Brihati (Indian Nightshade)
  9. Solanum Xanthocarpum – Kantakari
  10. Desmodium Gangeticum – Shalaparni
  11. Uraria Picta – Prishnaparni
  12. Tribulus Terrestris – Gokshura
  13. Pippali Fruit (Long pepper) – Piper Longum
  14. Pippali Roots (Piplamool) – Piper Longum
  15. Chavya (Java Long Pepper) – Piper Chaba
  16. Chitrak – Plumbago Zeylanica
  17. Sonth – Zingiber Officinale
  18. Yavakshara – Barley (Hordeum Vulgare) Kshaar

All ingredients are taken in equal proportion and water decoction is prepared using them in powdered form. The liquid is concentrated to make Pravahi Kwath or dried to get water extract and for making Kashayam Tablets.

Therefore, it also rectifies Pitta Dosha, and reduces its aggravation when it is in SAMA PITTA condition.

Indukantham Kashayam Vs Indukantham Ghee

In fact, Indukantham Kashayam is good option, when Vata is associated with Kapha or when one has SAMA condition.

Indukantham Ghee is good option than Indukantham Kashayam when Vata is associated with Pitta and need more nourishing properties.

  1. I am taking Indukantham Kwatham tablets for gas and bloating stomach (after consulting with an ayurveda doctor). When I take it before food, gases start forming in my stomach. So I tried to consume it after food. Then gases don’t form. What should I do? Is it ok if I take the medicine after food? Does it have the same effect as taking it before food?

    1. 1. Yes, you can consume Indukantham Kwatham tablets after foods. Some patients cannot tolerate Kashayam before foods.
