Amla Oil Benefits & Uses – Best Hair Oil for Hair Growth & Gray Hair

Ayurveda has introduced Amla Oil for hair growth and hair fall treatment. It becomes famous in India and many Indian people use it on regular basis. Now its benefits are spreading all around the world and many people are turning to Amla Oil.

Before we start discussion on Amla oil benefits, you should know that it is not extracted from the Amla fruits, seeds or pulp. Actually, Amla oil has base of sesame oil, coconut oil or olive oil. Sesame oil is common because it is less expensive than others are. The second most used base oil is coconut oil. Olive oil is rarely used as base oil for Amla oil.

Amla Oil mainly contains two ingredients.

  1. Natural Amla extract derived in oil during processing
  2. Base Oil

You can prepare Amla Oil with different methods and using different forms of Amla (Indian Gooseberry). The commonly used forms of Amla include:

How to Make Amla Oil

There are several methods by which you can make Amla oil at your home.

Making Amla Oil from Fresh Amla Fruit Pulp

IngredientsQuantity (Ratio)
Amla Fruit Pulp1 Kg (1 Part)
Base Oil (Sesame or coconut oil)1 Litre (1 Part)
Water4 Litres (4 Part)
  1. Take Fresh fruits and separate the fruit pulp and Amla seeds.
  2. Now check weight of the pulp and take 1 Kg Amla Fruit Pulp.
  3. Take 4 litres water and add Amla fruit pulp in it.
  4. Let it soak for 2 to 3 days.
  5. After that, boil the water with Amla fruit pulp and Add warm base oil.
  6. Now, simmer the mixture until the water gets evaporated and only oil remains.
  7. Leave it for a day.
  8. Next day, separate the oil from the residues using clean cotton cloth.
  9. Your Amla Oil is ready to use.

Making Amla Oil from Amla Powder

IngredientsQuantity (Ratio)
Amla Dried Powder1 Kg (1 Part)
Base Oil (Sesame or coconut oil)2 Litre (2 Part)
Water8 Litres (8 Part)
  1. Take Amla Dried Powder and mix it in water.
  2. Leave it for 24 hours.
  3. Now, boil the water with Amla powder and add warm base oil.
  4. Now, simmer the mixture until the water gets evaporated and only oil remains.
  5. Leave it for 1 to 3 days.
  6. Next day, separate the oil from the residues using clean cotton cloth.

Making Amla Oil from Amla Juice

Amla Juice1 Litre (1 Part)
Base Oil (Sesame or coconut oil)2 Litre (2 Part)
  1. Take Amla Juice and mix it in base oil.
  2. Leave it for 24 hours.
  3. Now, simmer the base oil with Amla Juice until the water content gets evaporated and only oil remains.
  4. Leave it for 1 to 3 days.
  5. Next day, separate the oil from the residues using clean cotton cloth.

Indications (Recommended)

You can apply Amla Oil on hair as regular oils. Its best uses are indicated in following conditions.

  1. Hair Fall
  2. Premature Graying of hair
  3. Weak or damaged hair
  4. Dry Scalp
  5. Itchy Scalp

Amla Oil Benefits

Amla Oil is an ayurvedic remedy for hair fall, graying hair and preventing hair damage. Well-prepared Amla oil also helps reducing stress when applied over the scalp.

Hair fall

Amla oil penetrates the scalp skin and provides strength to the hair follicles and hair roots. This effect appears due to some natural essential fatty acids, vitamin C due to Amla extract, antioxidants and phytochemicals present in the Amla oil.

Premature Graying of hair

Vitamin C and E deficiency plays a role in development of premature graying of hair. However, the internal supplement is also required for optimum nutrition. Amla Murabba, chyawanprash or other natural supplement can be used for this purpose. In addition to internal nourishment, one also requires external nourishment of the hair follicles, which can be achieved using Amla oil on regular basis. Amla oil contains Polyphenols and flavonoids, which help preventing premature graying of hair.

Weak or damaged hair

All natural phytochemicals present in Amla oil help preventing damage to hair and reduce effects of pollution on hair.

Dry Scalp

Amla oil prepared with sesame oil as base oil is best for dry scalp.

Itchy Scalp

For itchy scalp, Amla Oil prepared using coconut oil is best. For more benefits, add a few drops of Neem oil in Amla Oil, which increases anti-itching properties of the oil and reduces dandruff.

Remedy for Itchy Scalp
Amla Oil100 ml
Neem Oil5 ml

Mix both oils and apply it on scalp every day until you have itching on the scalp. After that, Apply the oil after every two days.

Directions to Use

A gentle scalp massage with Amla oil is always beneficial. Apply Amla oil directly to the scalp and gently do massage for at least 15 minutes for best results.
