Amritamehari Churnam is an antidiabetic and antihyperglycemic medicine used in Ayurveda. Diabetes Mellitus

Gymnema Sylvestre is the main ingredient of Amritamehari Churnam that exerts antidiabetic and antihyperglycemic actions. This action is attributed to its potential to

  1. reduce update of glucose in the small intestine
  2. stimulate the release of insulin from the islets of Langerhans in the pancreas
  3. improve glycolysis
  4. improve glycogen synthesis

Other ingredients in Amritamehari Churna also support these actions. However, this medicine is good for people suffering from pre-diabetes, and diabetes mellitus with fasting blood glucose level less than 160 mg/dl. In the most cases, people may also require additional ayurvedic medicines including Vasant Kusumakar Ras, Yashad Bhasma, Shilajit etc.

Amritamehari Churnam also helps to reduce the excretion of sugar in the urine, so it helps to treat glycosuria.

In case of polyuria, it is used along with Shilajit or Chandraprabha Vati.

Ingredients of Amritamehari Churnam also helps to treat Dyslipidemia. This churna lowers serum cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides. The antihyperlipidemic action is attributed to Gymnema Sylvestre and other ingredients also play an important role for supporting this action. Overall, it increases fecal excretion of cholesterol, acidic steroids, neutral sterols, and cholic acid-derived bile acid.

If a patient has polyuria or urinary problem associated with diabetes, then Dhanwantharam Kashayam is an appropriate adjuvant and Shilajit or Chandraprabha Vati is the best supportive medicine. In case of diabetic ulcers, Nimbadi Kashayam is the best suitable adjuvant.
