A very few cases of food allergy to anjeer have been reported. Research has shown that anjir skin has a much higher allergenicity (capability of inducing allergy) than its fruit pulp. A case report showed that eating anjeer caused oral allergy syndrome followed by respiratory disorders.
In the second case, symptoms such as blocked nose, watery eyes, sneezing and dry cough appeared after dried anjir was consumed. Skin tests were positive for dried anjir, skin and pulp of green anjir, leaf, and latex. Thus, it was concluded that different parts of these fruits have the different capability of inducing allergies, but the most important allergens are related to the skin of the anjir fruit.
