Aragwadhadi Kashayam (Kwatham)

Aragwadhadi Kashayam (also called Aragwadhadi Kwatham) is an ayurvedic decoction formulation recommended for Kapha diseases, skin diseases, wounds, ulcers, pruritus (itching), urticaria, scabies, diabetes, diabetic foot ulcer, frequent urination, urinary turbidity, and other urinary disorders. The main symptoms of using Aragwadhadi Kashayam are itching, abdominal heaviness and excessive phlegm production.

Benefits & Medicinal Uses

Aragwadhadi Kashayam can be used when the patient has intense itching, white coated tongue, and excessive phlegm production, heaviness in the abdomen, weeping eczema, edema, skin rashes, oozing skin and feeling numbness or rigidity in the skin.

Pruritus (Itching)

Pruritus (Itching) may have several underlying causes, but Kapha aggravation is the most common cause of itching that occurs without burning sensation. However, it itching occurs with burning sensation or heat sensation, and then Pitta Dosha is also involved. Aragwadhadi Kashayam is beneficial when Kapha Dosha is dominant and the patient has a body smell with the excess oiliness of the skin. Allergies are also the cause of itching.

In cases of skin allergies, Aragwadhadi Kashayam should be taken in combination with Mukta Shukti Pishti, Arogyavardhini Vati or Kutki (Picrorhiza Kurroa) and Haridrakhand.

Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis)

However, many patients with eczema have dry skin, itching, red and scaly patches on the skin. In such cases, Nalpamaradi Thailam is highly efficacious. But, some patients also have tiny blisters that contain clear fluid and these blisters get infected with bacteria, which results in weeping skin, also called weeping eczema. In such cases of oozing skin, Aragwadhadi Kashayam is highly useful internally. Externally, Nimbadi Thailam should be applied.

Frequent Urination & Urinary Turbidity

Aragwadhadi Kashayam reduces the frequency of urination and turbidity, bad smell and urinary infections. It should be used along with Chandraprabha Vati for the best results. It disinfects the urinary tract, urinary bladder and also helpful for reduces debris in the urinary bladder.


Aragwadhadi Kashayam contains several herbs, which are anti-diabetic and antihyperglycemic in action. Therefore, its regular intake alone can help to manage the diabetes mellitus and prevent the hyperglycemia.

Dosage & Administration

Aragwadhadi Kashayam is available in three preparations:

  1. Aragwadhadi Kashayam Churna
  2. Aragwadhadi Kashayam Liquid
  3. Aragwadhadi Kashayam Tablets

Aragwadhadi Kashayam Churna

If you are using Aragwadhadi Kashayam Churna, then take 60 grams Aragwadhadi Ghan Churna in 960 ml water. Boil to reduce it 120 ml liquid. The dosage is 30 to 60 ml for adults.

The general dosage of Decoction (Kwath) prepared with Aragwadhadi Kashayam Churna is as follows.
Children 15 to 30 ml *
Adults 30 to 60 ml *
Maximum Possible Dosage 120 ml Per Day (in divided doses)
* Twice a day
Best Time to Take: Before Food

Aragwadhadi Kashayam Liquid

Aragwadhadi Kashayam Liquid is readymade concentrated decoction and can be used in the following dosage.

The general dosage of Aragwadhadi Kashayam readymade Liquid is as follows.
Children 2.5 to 10 ml *
Adults 5 to 15 ml *
Maximum Possible Dosage 30 ml Per Day (in divided doses)
* Twice a day with 4 times boiled and cooled water
Best Time to Take: Before Food

Aragwadhadi Kashayam Tablets

Aragwadhadi Kashayam Tablets are the concentrated extract tablets of Aragwadhadi decoction.

The general dosage of Aragwadhadi Kashayam Tablets is as follows.
Children 1 tablet *
Adults 2 tablets *
Maximum Possible Dosage 4 tablets Per Day (in divided doses)
* Twice a day with warm water
Best Time to Take: 30 minutes Before Food
Note: The dosage is according to 1000 mg Aragwadhadi Kashayam tablet.

All available forms of Aragwadhadi Kashayam are considerably safe and well-tolerated in most individuals when Aragwadhadi Kashaya is taken in the recommended dosage under the supervision of an ayurvedic physician.

Side Effects

There are no side effects observed with Aragwadhadi Kashayam use.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Aragwadhadi Kashayam may not be suitable in pregnancy due to the presence of ingredients like Mainphal.

Lactating mothers should also use Aragwadhadi Kwatham under supervision if required and indicated.


There are no absolute contraindications for Aragwadhadi Kashaya.
