Trivang (Trivanga) Bhasma

Trivang (Trivanga) Bhasma is ayurvedic calcined medicine used for impotency, nocturnal emission, diabetes, frequent urination, recurrent miscarriages, leucorrhea, and infertility. Its main effects appear on nerves, testes, uterus, ovaries and urinary bladder. So, it is used for diseases occurring in these organs.

Ingredients (Composition)

Trivang means three metallic ingredients i.e. Vang (Tin), Nag (Lead), Yashad (Zinc). These three ingredients are taken in equal quantity. These three metals are processed in Aloe Vera Juice and Turmeric (Haridra or Haldi) and then heated to obtain Trivang Bhasma.

Medicinal Properties & Pharmacodynamics

Trivanga Bhasma has androgenic and aphrodisiac action in men. It may also encourage ovulation induction and release of the eggs from the ovaries. It further acts on uterus, provides strength to it and makes endometrium capable for implantation. Thus, it helps infertile women having unexplained infertility.

Trivang Bhasma Uses & Benefits

The most common use of Trivang bhasma includes impotency and nocturnal emission. Here we discuss some its important uses and benefits.

Nocturnal Emission

Trivanga bhasma reduces frequency of Nocturnal Emission (wet dreams). It is used with Amla Murabba and Isabgol (Psyllium Husk) in such case.

Erectile Dysfunction (Impotence)

Trivang bhasma has aphrodisiac action, which helps sustaining erections and providing strength to penile tissue. It should be used with cow’s ghee and milk for treating erectile dysfunction. Additionally, Ashwagandha, Kaunch Pak, Musli Pak etc. should also be used.

Female infertility

Female infertility can also be due to incapable endometrium to implant the fertilized eggs or underdevelopment of uterus and ovaries. In such cases, Trivang bhasma along with Ashwagandha Churna and milk works well. It strengthens the uterus and makes it capable for implantation.

Anovulation

It also induces ovulation and beneficial for women with Anovulation. In this case, it should be used along with Phalasarpis.

Recurrent Miscarriages (Repeated Pregnancy Loss)

The most common cause of Recurrent Miscarriages is weakness of the uterus. In such case, Trivang bhasma along with Ashwagandha Churna, Misri (crystalline sugar) and milk is beneficial. It should be used for 6 weeks initially and then Ashwagandha Churna should be used with Misri (crystalline sugar) and milk for next 3 months. During this period, women should avoid physical relations and should not try to conceive.

Safety Profile

Trivang Bhasma contains heavy metals, which are processed with herbs and heated under high temperature. Safety of Trivanga Bhasma is not well-established. It should only be used for a short-period (less than 6 weeks). The long-term use of Trivang is not advisable.

According to study published in AYU (An International Quarterly Journal of Research in Ayurveda), Trivang Bhasma was likely safe. There were no significant alterations found histopathologically and hematologically. Clinically, no abnormal signs were found. (Ref.)

Side Effects

No side effect appears when Trivang Bhasma used for a short period i.e. less than 6 weeks. The long-term use may cause heavy metal toxicity of lead.

Contraindications

Trivang Bhasma should not be used in Renal Failure (chronic kidney failure).

How long can I Take Trivang Bhasma?

The minimal use of Trivang Bhasma is advisable. There are many alternatives of this medicine available, which can be used after consulting ayurveda expert.

Does it raise serum level of Lead?

Short-term use may not increase lead level in the blood, but its long-term use may likely to increase serum lead level. Therefore, it is advisable to use it under supervision.

It contains Lead. How is it safe?

Obviously, it contains lead, which is a heavy metal. A well prepared Trivanga Bhasma was found to be safe in Swiss albino mice. No hematological and histopathological changes were observed. This study is discussed above under Safety Profile Section of this article.
