Ayurveda is a holistic system of medicine that aims at curing the diseases by correcting the imbalance in the body. This system originated in India thousands of years ago. It uses a constitutional model of treating diseases that involve correction of the THREE DOSHAS (Tridosha) in the body, which are Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, together with providing guidance regarding diet and lifestyle. It also advocates ensuring mental clarity to bring about a change in the unproductive mindsets.
The term Ayurveda is derived from two Sanskrit words: AYU meaning life and VEDA meaning the knowledge of. So, Ayurveda means to have the knowledge of life. According to Charaka, the ancient Ayurvedic scholar, “Ayu” or life is comprised of a combination of four essential parts: the mind, body, soul and the senses.
