Ayurvedic Body Type (Ayurveda Prakriti)

Ayurvedic Body Type also called body constitution and Prakriti in ayurveda is a unique type of body determined by the proportion of three Dosha in the body. Ayurveda classifies body type based on the predominance of Dosha. There are three Dosha, known as TridoshaVata, Pitta, and Kapha. Based on these three Doshas, there are seven types of body constitution according to the predominance of a specific Dosha.

  1. Vata Body Type
  2. Pitta Body Type
  3. Kapha Body Type
  4. Sama Body Type (also called Sama Vata Pitta Kapha Prakriti)
  5. Vata Pitta Body Type
  6. Pitta Kapha Body Type
  7. Vata Kapha Body Type

The determination and formation of the body type rely on the predominance of Dosha in ovum (egg cell/female gamete) and spermatozoon (male gamete). When spermatozoon fertilizes the ovum and forms fertilized egg, your unique body type is determined. Therefore, you cannot change your body type, but you can manage it with specific foods and lifestyle to keep yourself healthy and disease free.
