Ayurvedic Medicines

Ayurvedic medicine is an ancient healing system developed thousands of years ago in India. It is a holistic science based on the concept that health and wellness of a person depend on the harmony between the forces of life, which are the body, mind, and spirit. The focus of Ayurvedic medicines is on promoting good health through the correction of the imbalance between these forces. Ayurvedic medicines also aim to prevent the diseases and contribute to a long and healthy life.

According to Ayurveda, everything in the universe is interconnected. Hence, it believes that good health can be achieved when the mind, body, and spirit of a person are in harmony with the universe. Any form of disruption in this harmony can result in poor health and sickness.

Things that can create a disruption in the balance in the body and affect the physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being of a person include strong emotions, genetic or birth defects, climatic and seasonal changes, injuries and age.

Ayurvedic medicines include a variety of oral and topical medications. The medications are prepared from natural herbs, minerals, and metals. Though most of the Ayurvedic medicines are safe and do not cause any serious side effects, some of them may be harmful, especially if used improperly or for wrong indications. For example, the medications containing metals like lead can be poisonous while some herbs can cause side effects due to the interaction when used with some conventional medicines. However, in most cases, they are safe and highly effective in treating and preventing diseases.
