Ayurvedic Treatment for Anal Fissure

In this article, I will discuss the most effective ayurvedic treatment for anal fissure. These ayurvedic medicines reduce pain, burning, itching, and discomfort in the anorectal region. This treatment speeds up the healing process and helps you to get rid of anal fissure.

An anal fissure is a thin tear, cut or crack in the anal mucosa. It is characterized by pain, discomfort while bowel movement, bleeding, itching and burning after defecation.

Ayurvedic Treatment Principles for Fissure

According to ayurveda, this condition relates to aggravation of Vata and Pitta Dosha. So, we need to treat according to these doshas. We also need a medicine that induces quick healing. We can divide treatment into two main categories:

External Application

All these three medicines provide almost equal results. However, Jatyadi Oil has a better outcome when we compare treatment duration. It helps in quick healing than others.

Internal Medicine

Yashtimadhu Churna 2 grams
Gandhak Rasayana 500 mg
Rajat Bhasma 125 mg
Triphala Guggulu 1 gram

Dosage: Above dosage is applicable for a single time dose. The patient requires to take it two times a day in this dose.

Medication Time: Yashtimadhu Churna, Gandhak Rasayana and Rajat Bhasma should be taken 30 minutes before a meal. The best time to take Triphala Guggulu is 2 hours after a meal in case of anal fissure.

Adjuvant: All these ayurvedic medicines should be taken along with water.

Generally, all patients require these medicines. If the patient also has bleeding piles, then the patient may also require other medicines.

Ayurvedic Medicine for Anal Fissure

Let’s discuss why does the patient require the above medicines.

Jatyadi Oil

Jatyadi Oil helps in healing the fine cracks in the anal mucosa. It also acts as an antiseptic, antimicrobial, antipruritic and wound healing enhancer. Due to these properties, it reduces itching, burning and irritation around the rectal region.

Yashtimadhu Churna

Yashtimadhu Churna pacifies Vata and Pitta Dosha. Aggravation of these doshas is mainly responsible for anal fissure. It also helps to speed up the healing process of the fissure.

Gandhak Rasayana

However, Gandhak Rasayana has hot potency, but its potency is based by other Yashtimadhu. It is required to heal the fissure and prevent the infection.

Rajat Bhasma

Rajat Bhasma reduces pain associated with anal fissure. It also acts as antimicrobial and prevents infection.

Triphala Guggulu

The main purpose of using Triphala Guggulu in the anal fissure is its analgesic and anti-constipation action. However, it is also moderately warming in nature, but Yashtimadhu balances its warming action. It serves the function to reduce constipation, soften the stool, alleviate pain and prevent infection.

If the patient has severe constipation, he can also use Swadishta Virechan Churna. If he has mild constipation, he can use Gulkand or Triphala Churna. In such a case, the patient may not need Triphala Guggulu.

In combination with these ayurvedic medicines, the most patient gets rid of anal fissure within a week. However, some may require 2 to 3 weeks treatment if they have severe cuts in the anal mucosa.
