Babularishta (Babularishtam) Benefits, Uses and Dosage

Babularishta (Babularishtam) is used for the treatment of phthisis, skin diseases, urinary disorders and breathing problems. It is also beneficial in cases of blood disorders, acne, dermatitis, hemoptysis, lung injury, asthma, persistent cough, whooping cough, etc.

Babularishta reduces the severity of breathing trouble in an acute attack of asthma. It reduces wheezing, shortness of breath and chest tightness. It is helpful to manage a persistent cough. It clears the bronchial passageways and reduces inflammation of airways.

Ingredients (Composition)

The main ingredient of Babularishta is Babul Bark (Acacia Arabica). The complete list of ingredients of Babularishtam is provided below.

Prepare a decoction from Babul Bark and 1024 Parts water. Reduce it to 256 Parts liquid content/decoction. Then leave it for cooling. Filter the decoction. When decoction is slightly warm, add the following ingredients.

Gur – Jaggery100 Parts
Dhataki Flower- Woodfordia Fruticosa16 Parts
Pippali (Long Pepper) – Piper Longum2 Parts
Jaiphal (Nutmeg) – Myristica Fragrans1 Part
Laung (Clove) – Syzygium Aromaticum1 Part
Kankol (Kababchini) – Piper Cubeba1 Part
Elachi (Green Cardamom) – Elettaria Cardamomum1 Part
Dalchini (Cinnamon) – Cinnamomum Zeylanicum1 Part
Tejpata (Indian Bay Leaf) – Cinnamomum Tamala1 Part
Nagkesar – Mesua Ferrea1 Part
Kali Mirch (Black Pepper) – Piper Nigrum1 Part
  1. After mixing these ingredients, seal the asava vessel with a clay-smeared cloth. Leave it for 30 days in Asava place.
  2. After 30 days, filter the liquid (Babularishta) and preserve it in food-grade bottles.

Dosha Karma

Babularishta mainly works on Kapha Dosha. In lungs, it reduces mucus productive and has mucolytic action, which makes sputum easier to cough up.

Babularishta Uses & Benefits

Babularishta mainly acts on the lungs, urinary system and skin.

Bronchitis & Persistent Cough

Babularishta is used to reduce frequent persistent cough attack. In addition, it reduces inflammation of the lining of your bronchial tube. It has mucolytic action, which helps to clear the lungs.

However, if mucus or sputum is thick yellowish and patient feel difficult to cough up, and then it should be used along with Vasavaleha, Praval Pishti, and Sitopaladi Churna.

Hemoptysis

Babularishta is useful in the management of hemoptysis. Its antihemorrhagic action helps to treat the coughing up of blood from the respiratory tract. In such case, it is used along with Kamdudha Ras.

Babularishta Dosage

The general dosage of Babularishta is as follows.
Children (above the age of 5 years)2.5 to 10 ml
Adults10 to 30 ml
Maximum Possible Dosage60 ml Per Day (in divided doses)
Doses: Twice a day with equal amount of water
Best Time to Take: After Food
