Chintamani Ras (Hridaya) for Heart

Chintamani Ras (Hridaya) is a classical ayurvedic medicine used for heart and respiratory diseases. It helps in management of congestive heart failure (CHF), cardiac asthma due to CHF, cardiac dilation, cardiac myopathy, cardiac hypertrophy, heart valve regurgitation and heart fibrillation.

In respiratory disorders, Chintamani Ras (Hridaya) is good for all types of breathing troubles and cough. Abhrak Bhasma in Chintamani Ras provides strength to the respiratory system and restores the natural level of the mucus production.


Chintamani Ras (Hridaya) contains purified mercuric compound, Gandhak and Shilajit in addition to some bhasma. The detail of ingredients and their quantity in Chintamani is as follows:

Chintamani Ras (Hridaya) has following therapeutic properties:

Chintamani Ras (Hridaya) is beneficial in following heart diseases:

  1. Arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat)
  2. Atrial fibrillation
  3. Cardiomyopathy
  4. Congestive Heart Failure
  5. Cardiac Asthma
  6. Heart Enlargement (Cardiomegaly)
  7. Heart Palpitation
  8. Heart Valve Regurgitation
  9. Tachycardia

In all above heart conditions, Chintamani Ras (Hridaya) is given with Arjuna Ksheer Pak or Ashwagandha Arjun Kshir Pak. Using it along with Ashwagandha and Arjuna helps to strengthen the heart muscles.


The general dosage of Chintamani Ras (Hridaya) is as follows.
Children 30 to 125 mg *
Adults 125 to 250 mg *
Pregnancy Contraindicated
Geriatric (Old age) 60 to 250 mg *
Maximum Possible Dosage (per day or in 24 hours) 500 mg (in divided doses)
* Twice a day with appropriate adjuvant


Chintamani Ras (Hridaya) contains heavy metal (Shuddha Parad – Mercuric compound), so its use should be strictly under supervision of ayurvedic physician.

Maximum Safe Period for Regular Use of Chintamani Ras (Hridaya) 4 to 12 weeks
Minimum Precautionary Gap for restarting treatment with Chintamani Ras (Hridaya) 2 weeks
Minimum Precautionary Gap between Other Medicines 3 hours
Expiry Indefinite

If Shuddha Parad present in Chintamani Ras (Hridaya) is not properly processed as per ancient principles, then Chintamani Ras (Hridaya) can lead to heavy metal toxicity.

The maximum safe period as mentioned is 4 to 12 weeks use and the minimum gap required for the next course is 2 weeks, but what is the maximum number of cycles we can use it because the diseases for which it is mentioned needs lifelong treatment. Also, what is the alternative for the duration of the precautionary gap mentioned?

Chintamani Ras Hridaya can be repeated for 6 cycles. It does not require after this period as a maximum of patients get significant improvement in diseases indicated in this article. However, patients can take Arjuna Siddha Ksheera for a whole life.

In precautionary gap period, Prabhakar Vati, Ashwagandha and Arjuna Ksheer Pak should be used.
