For making Dasamoola Rasayanam, take water and add coarse powder of Kwath Dravya (ingredients for decoction).

Now, boil and then simmer the mixture until it 1/4th remains i.e. 3.07 liters of liquid content remains. Now, filter the decoction and add jaggery in the filtered decoction. Again simmer the decoction with jaggery until it becomes thick having Avaleha (Jam) consistency.

Now, remove it from heat and add a fine powder of Prakshep Dravya except honey. Leave it to cool naturally for several hours. When its temperature comes down to room temperature, then add honey in it and mix it well. Now, Dasamoola Rasayanam is ready to use.

Dasamoola Rasayanam Benefits & Uses

According to ayurveda, Dasamoola Rasayanam reduces Vata aggravation. Its main actions are observable on lungs & airways and abdominal organs. It is also beneficial for the treatment of neuromuscular disorders. It exerts analgesic action due to Dashmool, so it can also provide relief in pain disorders.

Common Cold, Acute Rhinitis, or Coryza

Dasamoola Rasayanam provides good results if started immediately after getting the first symptom of a common cold or feeling to suffer from common cold. It prevents it and stops its progress. Patients get relief within 1 to 2 days with Dasamoola Rasayanam if started immediately after onset of a common cold.

It is also useful when a patient suffers from tiredness, sneezing, runny nose, stuffy nose, thin or thick white mucus, body aches, and headache. It reduces all these symptoms. However, it should not be given if the patient has yellowish-green mucus, throat pain with burning sensation, or if the throat is extremely red or inflamed. In such case, Vasavaleha, Vasa preparations or Sitopaladi Churna along with Jasad Bhasma, Gandhak Rasayana and Praval Pishti is more useful.

Bronchitis

Dasamoola Rasayanam is beneficial in the first stage of acute bronchitis when the patient has persistent cough attack of dry non-productive cough. In such case, it should be given in a low dose (around 2 grams) on the interval of 30 to 60 minutes until the patient gets relief from persistant cough attacks.

In next stage, mucus starts producing from the lungs. Dasamoola Rasayanam can still be taken until mucus is clear and white in color. Generally, white mucus is often linked with a viral infection, so it is likely to be more effective in viral bronchitis. In bacterial bronchitis or when mucus color changes to yellowish-green or yellow-gray, then Dasamula Rasayanam is not likely to be useful. In such case, the better remedy is Vasavaleha, or Vasa preparations, or Sitopaladi Churna along with Jasad Bhasma, Gandhak Rasayana, and Praval Pishti etc. Fever should also be treated separately.

Asthma

The similar principle applies here as discussed under heading bronchitis. If the patient has a persistent dry cough, then Dasamoola Rasayanam is more useful.
