Giloy Sat (Guduchi or Amrita Satva)
Giloy Sat (also called Giloy Satva, Guduchi Satva and Amrita sat or Satva) is an ayurvedic herbal water extract prepared by macerations (cold soaking). It includes the water-soluble extract of Tinospora Cordifolia (In Hindi, Giloy or Guduchi).
Giloy Sat is beneficial in all types of PITTA (heat) disorders. It helps treating constipation, digesting AMA (toxin), correcting liver functions, etc. It has several health benefits. Generally, it affects all body tissues with aggravated PITTA humour and improves immunity due to its immuno-modulatory effects.

Medicinal Uses & Health Benefits
The main action of Giloy Sat (Guduchi Satva) is on PITTA humor aggravation. However, it brings the balance between all three humors, but the predominant effect is seen on PITTA and heat disorders.
Fevers & Infections
Giloy Satva (Guduchi Sat) has mild antipyretic effects. Along with Praval Pishti, it works as a potent ayurvedic antipyretic and lowers 1 to 2 degree temperature within 30 to 60 minutes. However, it works as PARACETAMOL, so temperature will again rise after diminution of its effects in bacterial infections. Therefore, other medicines are also required to cover up the associated infection.
Furthermore, it has one more effect in fever. In fever, patients feel weakness, loss of energy or loss of strength, tiredness and restlessness. No such symptom occurs if patients take Giloy satva with praval pishti. This combination also reduces burning sensation and heat sensation in the hands, feet and body.
Low immunity
Giloy sat also acts as immunomodulator, so it also improves body’s defense mechanism. If person takes Giloy sat alone, then this effect is observable more in viral infections such as common cold and flu. To build non-specific immunity, the patient requires 40 days courses of Giloy Satva and vasant malti ras (gold). It develops non-specific immunity in the body at greater extent. This combination helps a lot to prevent a variety of several bacterial as well as viral infections.
Diabetes
Some diabetic patients have symptoms such as excessive thirst, frequent urination, tiredness, lack of interest, increased hunger, frequent urinary tract infections, tingling sensation in feet or numbness in hands or feet. Giloy Sat reduces all these symptoms when it is taken with following adjuvants.

Caution & Side Effects
Giloy Sat (Amrita Satva or Guduchi Satva) is PROBABLY SAFE. There are no side effects observed in any patient using Giloy Satva.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Giloy Sat may be safe in Pregnancy and breastfeeding. In Indian medicine, it is used to women with high risk of miscarriage along with other remedies. In fact, Giloy Satva is an edible plant starch, which may not affect adversely in pregnant women. It may also be considered foodstuff.
Contraindications
There are no contraindications known for Giloy Satva.

Hello Dr, Can we give giloy juice to 10 day old baby? It’s a low weight baby (2KG) and born in 34 weeks, it had 100000 Platelets when it born, but after keeping under neonatal care it went down to 40000, now it around 50k, Pl suggest.
Giloy can be given to infants, but you should fresh giloy juice instead of packed one and should be given under the direct supervision of an ayurvedic physician.

It should be an extraction of giloy stem. Always prepare it fresh under hygienic conditions.

There is no specific duration of treatment. You might require it until you get complete relief. It can vary from 1 to 3 months or even more.
Can we use turmeric with Giloy satwa in case of infection relating colour of stools is clay colour.
Clay-colored stool might be due to something related to biliary drainage. In such case, there can be two major causes:
1. Reduced bile production in the liver
2. Blockage in bile flow
We are not sure if Giloy with Turmeric can help in this case.
In Ayurveda, Aloe Vera preparations including Kumari Asava and Bhringrajasava are main medicines for this problem. However, these are only helpful if there is a problem with bile production in the liver.
You should consult a physician to rule out the underlying cause and treatment should be taken accordingly.
Giloy satva can be used for fever. My baby is one year old and fever near about 103.7 to 104.1 at night from last 3 days. Can I give?
Giloy Satva alone may not be useful in high-grade fever. Generally, it is used in chronic fever. Consult a physician for more detail.
I have RA, so immune system is very week. So, tried Giloy satva which shows tremendous result. I take this with honey or aloe vera two times.

Thanks for your wonderful article. My daughter is going thru multiple fetal pregnancy reduction as she has 4 babies developing after IVF. IVF Doctor says we should reduce from 4 to 2 for health pregnancy. There is a risk of infection during this reduction procedure. IVF doctor says they will prescribe the antibiotics for infection.
I was looking for some alternative to antibiotics. Is giloy sat help to prevent infection? Also, are there any other herbs safe to take in pregnancy during this procedure to prevent infection?

You should follow your doctor’s advice. Alternative medicines are not so potent to prevent infection in such a case. Because it is not a case of low immunity. Needle insertion involves in this procedure. However, the chances of infection in this procedure are minuscule. But you should not rely on herbs. These herbs may not be helpful to prevent an unfortunate event.
