Guggulu Rasayana

Guggulu Rasayana is used for the treatment of obesity. It helps to lose weight and reduces accumulation of fat in the body. It improves digestion and metabolism, which improves the usability of major nutrients including fats, protein, and carbohydrates. The improvement in metabolic rate helps to enhance the burning of the accumulated fats. In addition, it also reduces bad body odor, excessive sweating, and laziness. It improves strength, vitality, and immunity.

Vaividang (False Black Pepper) – Embelia Ribes 1 Part
Turmeric (Haldi or Haridra) – Curcuma Longa 1 Part
Nagarmotha or Mustak (Nut Grass) – Cyperus Rotundus 1 Part
Devdaru (Deodar Cedar or Himalayan Cedar) – Cedrus Deodara 1 Part
Sonth (Ginger Rhizome) – Zingiber Officinale 1 Part
Kali Mirch (Black Pepper) – Piper Nigrum 1 Part
Pippali (Long Pepper) – Piper Longum 1 Part
Elachi (Green Cardamom) – Elettaria Cardamomum 1 Part
Chitrak – Plumbago Zeylanica 1 Part
Punarnava (Spreading Hogweed or Common Hogweed) – Boerhavia Diffusa 1 Part
Ankol – Alangium Salvifolium 1 Part
Shuddha Shilajit (Asphaltum) 1 Part
Shuddha Guggulu 18 Parts
Bhringraj Svarasa – Eclipta Alba Juice Q.S.

Preparation Method

For making Guggulu Rasayana, take an iron mortar and put Shuddha Guggulu in it and add a small quantity of Bhringraj Svarasa. Pestle it and gradually add the fine powder of other ingredients of Guggulu Rasayana. When the mixture is ready to make tablets, then make tablets of each 500 mg.

Dosha Karma

Guggulu Rasayana mainly reduces on Kapha Dosha and also pacifies Vata Dosha.

Guggulu Rasayana is helpful in following health conditions.

  • Obesity
  • Hyperlipidemia (elevated lipids)
  • Hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol)
  • Hypertriglyceridemia (high triglycerides)
  • Bad body odor
  • Excessive sweating

Guggulu Rasayana Dosage

The general dosage of Guggulu Rasayana is as follows.
Children 250 to 750 mg
Adults 500 to 1500 mg (optimum dosage is 1500 mg)
Maximum Possible Dosage 3 grams Per Day (in divided doses)
Doses: 2 Doses per day
Best Time to Take: 30 Minutes before meal
Adjuvant: Warm water or Triphala Water

Safety Profile

Guggulu Rasayana is considerably safe for most individuals when taken as per its indications in appropriate dosage under professional supervision.

Side Effects of Guggulu Rasayana

Generally, there are no side effects when Guggulu Rasayana is used wisely in patients with the dominance of Kapha Dosha. If the patient has Pitta Prakriti or any condition related to the increase of the Pitta, then it can cause following side effects:

  • Heartburn
  • Burning sensation in abdomen
  • Acid reflux

These side effects with Guggulu Rasayana are very rare because it also contains some ingredients like Swarna Makshik Bhasma, Amla, and Nagarmotha, which acts to reduce acid reflux, heartburn, and burning or heat sensation.


There are no absolute contraindications for Guggulu Rasayana.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Guggulu Rasayana should not be used during pregnancy.

The safety profile of Guggulu Rasayana is not well established for lactating mothers. Consult an ayurvedic physician before using Guggulu Rasayana during lactation.
