Guluchyadi Kashayam (Guduchyadi Kashayam)

Guluchyadi Kashayam (also spelled as Guduchyadi Kashayam and Guduchyadi Ghan Kwath) is an ayurvedic medicine mainly used for fevers and infections associated with burning sensation, excessive thirst, loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting. It can be used in all infections occurring with burning sensation and high-grade fever. It has anti-microbial action and anti-inflammatory property. It can also be used in cases of heartburn, acid reflux, gastritis, nausea and vomiting with the sour taste of mouth and sour belching (burp).

In addition to these, it is also effective for liver diseases in which Pita Dosha has predominance. It is likely to increase immunity, improve functions of liver and kidneys, and balance three Dosha (Tridosha). The main effects are observed on Pita Dosha, then Kapha Dosha, and Ama (toxins), and then Vata Dosha.

Furthermore, it is an excellent remedy for ankle pain occurring with tenderness, burning feet syndrome and Dysesthesia with burning sensation.

Guluchyadi Kashayam Ingredients

Dhania (Coriander) – Coriandrum Sativum 1 Part
Lal Chandan (Red Sandalwood) – Pterocarpus Santalinus 1 Part
Neem – Azadirachta Indica 1 Part
Padmaka (Wild Himalayan Cherry) – Prunus Cerasoides 1 Part

Pharmacological Actions

Guluchyadi Kashayam has anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties, so it is effective for reducing inflammation and arresting the microbial growth. It mainly reduces burning sensation, heat sensation, sour taste of mouth, nausea and vomiting associated with acidity, sour taste of mouth or sour burps. According to Ayurveda, it mainly reduces Pita Dosha and Kapha Dosha, so it gives relief in all these symptoms.

  • Nausea and vomiting with sour taste of mouth and sour belching (burp).

  • Dysesthesia when burning sensation is most disturbing symptom.

Dosage & Administration

Guluchyadi Kashayam is available in three preparations:

  1. Guluchyadi Kashayam Churna
  2. Guluchyadi Kashayam Liquid
  3. Guluchyadi Kashayam Tablets

Guluchyadi Kashayam Churna

If you are using Guluchyadi Kashayam Churna, then take 48 grams churna in 768 ml water. Boil to reduce it 96 ml Guluchyadi liquid.

The general dosage of Decoction (Kwath) prepared with Guluchyadi Kashayam Churna is as follows.
Children 1.5 ml per Kg of Body Weight
Adults 96 ml
Maximum Possible Dosage 192 ml Per Day (in divided doses)
* Twice a day
Best Time to Take: Before Food

Guluchyadi Kashayam Liquid

Guluchyadi Kashayam Liquid is readymade concentrated decoction and can be used in the following dosage.

The general dosage of Guluchyadi Kashayam readymade Liquid is as follows.
Children 2.5 to 10 ml *
Adults 5 to 15 ml *
Maximum Possible Dosage 30 ml Per Day (in divided doses)
* Twice a day with 4 times boiled and cooled water
Best Time to Take: Before Food

Guluchyadi Kashayam Tablets

Guluchyadi Kashayam Tablets are the extract tablets of the Guluchyadi decoction.

The general dosage of Guluchyadi Kashayam Tablets is as follows.
Children 1 tablet *
Adults 2 tablets *
Maximum Possible Dosage 4 tablets Per Day (in divided doses)
* Twice a day with warm water
Best Adjuvant: lukewarm water
Best Time to Take: 30 minutes Before Food
Note: The dosage is according to 1000 mg tablet of Guluchyadi Kashayam.

Safety Profile

All available forms of Guluchyadi Kashayam are considerably safe and well-tolerated in most individuals when Guluchyadi formulations are taken in the recommended dosage under the supervision of an ayurvedic physician.

Side Effects

There are no side effects observed with Guluchyadi Kashayam.

Pregnancy & Lactation

The safety profile of Guluchyadi Kashayam is not well established for pregnant women. However, ingredients used in Guluchyadi Kashaya in provided ratio are not likely to cause any side effects during pregnancy. You should consult an ayurvedic physician before using Guluchyadi formulations during pregnancy.

Guluchyadi Kashayam is likely to be safe to consume by lactating mothers. There are no adverse effects reported with the use of Guluchyadi Kwatham in lactating mothers and breastfeeding babies.
