Laxmi Vilas Ras (Nardiya) Benefits, Uses, Dosage & Side Effects

Laxmi Vilas Ras (Nardiya), also spelled as Nardiya Lakshmi Vilas Ras, is an herbomineral medicine that mainly contains Abhrak Bhasma. It is also called Laxmi Vilas Ras Abhrak. Its main therapeutic effects appear on lungs, pleura, airways, pericardium, and blood vessels. It also acts on heart, heart valves and skin. Its main indication is a cardiac weakness.

It can be used in any disease in which heart becomes weak or patient suffers from restlessness and irregular heartbeat. Usually, it is prescribed to strengthen the heart and lungs. It has potent cardioprotective properties, which also help to prevent secondary cardiac complication that may occur due to any disease.

Laxmi Vilas Ras Uses & Benefits

Here we will discuss main uses and benefits of Laxmi Vilas Ras (Nardiya).

Antioxidant: A study found it has activities against superoxide radicals, which are comparable to gallic acid. It scavenges the superoxide radicals and exhibits potent antioxidant activity. (Reference)

Cardioprotective

Laxmi Vilas Ras benefits in heart diseases due to its cardioprotective and stimulant action. It strengthens the heart and increases the force of contraction and pumping capacity of the heart. It normalizes the process of heart contraction and relaxation.

Ayurvedic practitioners commonly use this formulation for improving heart functions and protecting the heart from cardiac complications of other diseases.

Bradycardia

It is effective medicine if bradycardia occurs due to Coronary artery disease, Rheumatic fever or Obstructive sleep apnea. It should be used along with Mrit Sanjeevani Sura. In some cardiac disorders, Yakuti Rasayana or Jawahar Mohra may also require.

Complications of Influenza

The ideal medicine for influenza is Tribhuvan Kirti Ras along with Amruthotharam Kashayam. However, Laxmi Vilas Ras is used in later stages when the patient started having a persistent cough, reduced heart rate, breathlessness and other complications that affect the heart.

Sinus Infection (Sinusitis)

There are two types of Sinusitis – acute and chronic. Lakshmi Vilas Ras is not suitable for the acute phase of infection. However, it is an excellent medicine for chronic sinusitis. It is beneficial when the patient has a constant headache, pain increases with cold things, postnasal drainage and bad breath. It should be used in combination with Sitopaladi Churna and Honey. Arogyavardhini Vati should also be taken as a supportive medicine. However, if mucus is thick, yellow or greenish in color, then Gandhak Rasayana, Yashad Bhasma, Vasavaleha or Vasaka leaf juice should also be taken along with it.

Cough (Vataj Kasa)

When patient suffers from persistent dry cough attacks, restlessness, cough starts with a little exertion, and pain in head, chest or abdomen, then he is suffering from Vataj Kasa as per ayurveda. In this type of cough, Laxmivilas ras is highly useful. Adjuvant should be Cow’s Ghee and warm milk.

Dosage

The classical ayurvedic dosage of Laxmi Vilas Ras (Nardiya) is as follows:

Side Effects & Safety

The most common side effect of Laxmi Vilas Ras (Nardiya) is increased heart rate in a few patients. It generally occurs in patients taking it along with water. In such patients, it should be given along with Swarna Makshik Bhasma.

Pregnant women and lactating mothers should avoid Laxmi Vilas Ras (Nardiya).

  1. I have the said medicine of unjha pharmacy. But it has mentioned that for the use of cold and cough and rhinitis. Please guide me whether it can be used for heart problems along with Arjuna chhal. Or it can be used for tinnitus and ear problems.

    1. 1. Yes, Laxmi Vilas Ras is used for cold and cough.
      2. Yes, it is also used for heart problems. The same medicine has several indications.
      3. Yes, it can help to treat ear problems, as per classical texts. We never use it for this.
      4. We don’t have experience or authentic information if it can work for tinnitus or not.

    2. For tinnitus, Sarivadi Vati is used internally and Karna Purana is advised.
      Usually, treatment depends on the cause.

      If there is no infection, then Karna Purana can help.

      In this case, Karna Purana with Narayan Tail, Vishnu Taila, Nirgundi Tail, or Bala Taila is prescribed.

      In addition, Nasya with Anu Thailam or Narayan Tail is also advised.

      For muscular pain, there are hundreds of options. Yograj Guggulu, Trayodashang Guggulu etc. are commonly used. Medicine can be different for each person. You should consult an ayurvedic physician for more detail.

    1. Not all ayurvedic medicines are expensive. A very few medicines that contain gold, silver or other minerals are expensive. Other medicines are affordable for all people.

      The preparation process of some medicines is very complicated. Price of medicines also depends on the cost of labor.
