However, it also possesses other healing properties like appetizer, digestive, liver stimulant, antioxidant and hepatoprotective etc.

Elevated Liver Enzymes

Elevated or altered liver profile (ALANINE TRANSAMINASE or ALT / SGPT and ASPARTATE TRANSAMINASE or AST / SGOT) may indicate inflammation of the liver or damage to the liver cells. Liv.52 helps reduce inflammation and thus decrease the secretion of certain chemicals, which are leaked out from the inflamed cells into the bloodstream.

In many cases, liver enzymes may elevate mildly or temporarily.  In these cases, patient may not require treatment for this because there is no underlying chronic or serious liver disease. Using Liv.52 can prevent further damage to the liver and reduces liver inflammation. Therefore, it may be advisable to use Liv.52 in such cases as well. Normally, Liv.52 plain in dosage of 2 tablets twice daily or Liv.52  DS in dosage of 1 tablet twice daily for one to two months is sufficient to normalize the liver enzymes.

Jaundice is a unique characteristic in almost all types of liver disorders. All variants of Liv.52 work well in reducing elevated serum bilirubin level and treating jaundice. Liv 52 also reduces elevated liver enzymes.

Liv 52 will not work in obstructive jaundice (Obstruction of bile ducts). Obstructive jaundice has several other causes including blockage of bile ducts due to gallstones or tumor.

Hepatitis A (infectious hepatitis)

Hepatitis A virus is the underlying cause of Hepatitis A (infectious hepatitis). It causes liver inflammation and reduces liver functions.

In India, the most common medicine used for hepatitis A is Liv 52. Modern as well as ayurvedic physicians prescribe it for improving liver functions and increasing the recovery time. However, patient may not require treatment of mild hepatitis A infection, but it is better to take Liv 52 to reduces toxicity and damage because liver take six months to heal itself from the damage caused by the Hepatitis A virus.

Furthermore, Liv 52 helps tackling with nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, and loss of appetite. It also reduces elevated serum bilirubin levels and normalizes liver enzymes.

Hepatitis B

Minimum six months therapy is recommended with Liv 52 HB for patients with hepatitis B infection. The underlying cause of hepatitis B is hepatitis B virus (HBV). Liv 52 HB has effects on hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg). It inhibits reverse transcriptase, which helps clearing hepatitis B virus. Clinical studies have concluded that Liv 52 HB significantly reduces viral load in hepatitis.

Liv 52 HB by himalaya also has influence on liver enzymes and glycogen level in the liver. It restores the glycogen levels in the liver and helps normalizing elevated liver enzymes.

We found it more effective in such cases for the management of mild constipation in both children and adults. The results are observable in children as compared to adults.
