Mahalaxmi Vilas Ras (also spelled as Mahalakshmi Vilas Ras) is a Rasayana Medicine in ayurveda. It acts on lungs, nasal cavity, testes, male reproductive system, muscles, and senses. It strengthens whole body, especially lungs. It improves the functions of airways and lungs. It eases in breathing and alleviates cough. It also acts as cardioprotective and prevents several cardiac disorders. It is commonly used for treating chronic coryza and sinusitis.

Let’s start a discussion on medicinal uses and benefits of Mahalaxmi Vilas Ras.
Arrhythmia
It is an excellent medicine in ayurveda for treating cardiac arrhythmia. Its main action is to provide strength to the heart and make it capable to perform its normal functions.
Arrhythmia is classified mainly into two groups:
- Tachycardia
- Bradycardia
This medicine is effective in both cases. However, the Anupaan (adjuvant) role is very important.
Bradycardia
It is effective medicine if bradycardia occurs due to any of the following causes:
- Coronary artery disease
- Rheumatic fever
- Obstructive sleep apnea
In bradycardia, it should be given with Mrit Sanjeevani Sura. In addition, Jawahar Mohra or Yakuti Rasayana may also require.
Tachycardia
There are several causes of tachycardia. It can be used to treat tachycardia if the patient suffers from any following disease:
- Persistent dry cough associated with breathing trouble, restlessness, and exhaustion
- Poor blood supply to heart – due to atherosclerosis, heart failure, cardiomyopathy or heart valve disease
- High-grade fever
- Pleurisy
Its main action is to strengthen the heart. So, where cardioprotective or strengthening actions are required, it can be used.
Note:
- As discussed above, Anupaan is very important. In this case, it should be given with honey.
- Additionally, Jahar Mohra Pishti and Mukta Pishti can also be taken along with it for maximum benefits.
Tuberculosis
Its main use is observable in first and second stages of pulmonary tuberculosis. However, its antitubercular actions are not so potent that can help to eradicate the disease. Still, it can inhibit the reproduction and growth of bacteria. Moreover, it is beneficial to restore energy, strength, and weight. It can play an important role as supportive therapy in tuberculosis.
Chronic Cough (Bronchitis)
According to ayurveda, it is beneficial when the patient has Kaphaj Kasa. This condition generally relates to bronchitis in modern science. In Ayurveda, the characteristics of Kaphaj Kasa include:
- Discharge of thick mucus
- Excessive salivation
- Laziness
- Headache
- Loss of interest in eating
- Feeling of heaviness in the body
In chronic Kaphaj Kasa, mucus becomes very thick and yellowish in color and has a bad smell. The patient also becomes weak and lose weight. In such cases, Mahalaxmi Vilas Ras restores energy, weight, and strength. It further cures cough and its underlying infection.

The classical ayurvedic dosage of Mahalaxmi Vilas Ras is as follows:

Anupaan (Adjuvant)
