Maharasnadi Kwath (Kadha, Kashayam or Quath) – Rasnadwigunabhagam Kashayam

Maharasnadi Kwath (also called Rasnadwigunabhagam Kashayam, Maharasnadi Kadha, Maharasnadi Kashayam and Maharasnadi Quath) is an ayurvedic medicine mainly used for diseases of the musculoskeletal system. It mainly acts on bones, joints, muscles and nerves. It is used in pain disorders and arthritis for pain relief. In arthritis, it provides relief from pain, swelling, inflammation and stiffness. It helps to treat rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, sciatica, backache, paralytic disorders, abdominal distension, bloating, gas, etc.

There is a slight variation can be seen for the quantity of Rasna – Pluchea lanceolata in it. Generally, Rasna is taken in 2 parts. Some texts suggest 3 parts and some suggest 25 parts. According to Sahasrayogam and Sarngadhara Samhita, Rasna should be taken in 2 parts.

Pharmacological Actions

The role of Maharasnadi Kwatham is mostly observable on the nervous system and musculoskeletal system. Maharasnadi Kwath pacifies inflammation and irritation of nerves and removes toxins from the body. Furthermore, it reduces inflammation of organs/parts of the musculoskeletal system. Therefore, it is recommended for paralytic disorders and arthritis. It has antitoxin and AMA Pachak (Detoxifier) actions, which reduces AMA formation, removes AMAVISHA from the channels and facilitates their quick elimination from the body. Therefore, it helps in diseases in which AMA or AMAVISHA are responsible or play as an underlying cause of the disease e.g. Rheumatoid Arthritis and Gout.

  1. Maharasnadi Kwath Churna (Rasnadwigunabhagam Kashayam)
  2. Maharasnadi Kwath Liquid (Rasnadwigunabhagam Kashayam)
  3. Maharasnadi Kwath Tablets (Rasnadwigunabhagam Kashayam)

Maharasnadi Kashayam Churna

If you are using Maharasnadi Kwath Churna, then take 60 grams churna in 960 ml water. Boil to reduce it 120 ml Maharasnadi liquid. The dosage is 30 to 60 ml.

The general dosage of Decoction (Kwath) prepared with Maharasnadi Kashayam Churna is as follows.
Children 15 to 30 ml *
Adults 30 to 60 ml *
Maximum Possible Dosage 120 ml Per Day (in divided doses)
* Twice a day
Best Time to Take: Before Food

Maharasnadi Kashayam Liquid – Rasnadwigunabhagam Kashayam

Maharasnadi Kashayam Liquid is readymade concentrated decoction and can be used in the following dosage.

The general dosage of Maharasnadi Kashayam (Rasnadwigunabhagam Kashayam) readymade Liquid is as follows.
Children 2.5 to 10 ml *
Adults 5 to 15 ml *
Maximum Possible Dosage 30 ml Per Day (in divided doses)
* Twice a day with 4 times boiled and cooled water
Best Time to Take: Before Food

Maharasnadi Kashayam Tablets – Rasnadwigunabhagam Kashayam

Maharasnadi Kashayam (Rasnadwigunabhagam Kashayam) Tablets are the extract tablets of the Maharasnadi decoction.

The general dosage of Maharasnadi Kashayam Tablets is as follows.
Children 1 tablet *
Adults 2 tablets *
Maximum Possible Dosage 4 tablets Per Day (in divided doses)
* Twice a day with warm water
Best Adjuvant: Warm water
Best Time to Take: 30 minutes Before Food
Note: The dosage is according to 1000 mg tablet of Maharasnadi Kashayam.

Important Note

Maharasnadi Kwath available in the market (manufactured by Baidyanath, Dabur, Sandu, and Zandu etc.) are based on Asava Arishta preparation, which should be taken after a meal with an equal amount of water.

Companies like Arya Vaidya Sala Kottakkal, Nagarjuna, and Arya Vaidya Nilayam etc. manufacture Maharasnadi Kwath in name of Rasnadwigunabhagam Kashayam, which should be taken as described in tables above.

Safety Profile

All available forms of Maharasnadi Kwath are considerably safe and well-tolerated in most individuals when Maharasnadi formulations are taken in the recommended dosage under the supervision of an ayurvedic physician. Maharasnadi Kashaya is well suitable for people having Vata dominance in symptoms.

Side Effects

There are no side effects observed with Maharasnadi Kwath.

Pregnancy & Lactation

The safety profile of Maharasnadi Kwath is not well established for pregnant women. You should consult an ayurvedic physician before using Maharasnadi formulations during pregnancy.

Maharasnadi Kwath is likely to be safe to consume by lactating mothers. There are no adverse effects reported with the use of Maharasnadi Kwatham in lactating mothers and breastfeeding babies.

  1. I have L5 S1 bulge, on right side of body pain in top ankle, cuff of leg in right leg for the last 6 years. Doctor had given injection at back and due to wrong nerve injection has damaged my right i.e. foot drop for pain due to spine compression of nerve is there. I have consulted so many doctors all suggested injection and not successful operation.

    Some improvement is there but difficult to walk due to FOOT DROP.
    Today I saw Maharasnadi Kwath wit Guggul
    I will request you to kindly let me have advice should I take also Maharasnadi Kwath of Baidynath with the Vatchintamani etc. Or any other medicines which are good for my Spine bulge pain Cuff and FOOT DROP.
