Pinda Thailam (Oil)

Pinda Thailam (Pinda Oil, also spelled as Pind Tail or Tailam) is an ayurvedic oil preparation used for relieving pain, heat sensation, burning sensation, redness, tenderness and swelling in the joints. Especially, it is recommended for the management of gouty arthritis symptoms and used as a topical application and a gentle massage of Pinda oil is recommended on the affected joints. It is also beneficial in cases of burning feet syndrome, feet pain with morning tenderness and stiffness.

The oil is prepared heating the above mixture until the oil remains and water content gets evaporated. The oil obtained/filtered through this method is named as Pinda Thailam or Pind Oil.

Pharmacological Actions

Pinda Thailam has soothing action and mainly relieves burning and heat sensation.

Ayurvedic Properties

According to ayurveda, Pinda Thailam has cooling action, so it is recommended in PITTA disorders of bones, joints, muscles and skin. Its topical application and massage provides relief from burning pain.

  3. Joint tenderness and heat sensation in the affected joints due to Rheumatoid Arthritis

Gouty Arthritis

A gentle massage of Pinda Thailam gives relief from the pain, burning sensation, redness, joint tenderness and inflammation that occur due to gout. It is mainly prescribed for external application in gout to reduce its symptoms. In gout, affected joint becomes swollen, hot and tender. Pinda Oil mitigates all these symptoms. However, its effect on urate crystals accumulation is unknown, but it provides a symptomatic relief.

Burning Feet (Burning Feet Syndrome)

In Burning Feet (Burning Feet Syndrome), patient feels burning sensation in feet, which may also be accompanied paresthesia (pins and needles sensation) and numbness. A massage with Pinda Thailam reduces tiredness of feet and gives relief from burning sensation and paresthesia.

How to Use

Warm the Pinda Thailam and then apply it over the affect parts or joints. A gentle massage should be done. It should be used 2 to 3 times a day especially at night before sleep.

Safety Profile

Pinda Thailam is considerably safe as external application. Internal use of Pinda oil is not recommendable.

Side Effects

There are no side effects observed with Pinda Thailam when used in indicated diseases or symptoms.
