Putrajeevak Beej

Putrajeevak Beej or seeds are used for female infertility treatment in ayurveda. It strengthens the uterine musculature and helps a woman to get pregnant. According to ayurveda, it has an effect on the reproductive system, especially on uterus and ovaries in women and testes in men. The main action of Putrajeevak is to strengthen these structures and improve the functions of these organs. It is also helpful in the treatment of habitual abortion (recurrent miscarriage).

In addition, it also has aphrodisiac and spermatogenic actions, so it is beneficial in male impotence and infertility. It induces spermatogenesis, improves the total sperm count and increases the count of healthy sperms in the semen.

Putrajeevak Beej provides nourishment to the body, especially to the organs of male and female reproductive system. It reduces constipation, excessive thirst, physical weakness or debility, intestinal gas and burning sensation. It improves eyesight, immunity and physical strength and endurance.

Putrajeevak Beej or seeds are used in the treatment of female and male infertility. The roots are also used for similar purposes.

Putrajeevak leaves have anti-inflammatory, anodyne, and febrifuge actions.  It reduces inflammation, edema, and pain. In very high dosage, leaves have cytogenetic action.  (1, 2)

The leaves and fruits of Putrajeevak reduce fever and are beneficial in common cold and sore throat. Seeds and bark are also used as an antidote to snake poison.

Putrajeevak Beej is helpful in following health conditions.

Putrajeevak Beej Benefits & Medicinal Uses

Putrajeevak Beej acts as a uterine tonic and improves the health of organs of female reproductive system. If it is administrated wisely according to Dosha, it helps to cure infertility in both female and male. It makes uterus capable for implantation and to continue the pregnancy, so it is useful in cases of recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) or habitual abortions.

In men, it improves spermatogenesis and increases the count, so it is highly beneficial in the treatment of male infertility occurring due to Oligospermia, asthenospermia, and teratozoospermia.

Female Infertility

However, there are several causes of infertility in women, but Putrajeevak Beej acts as supportive medicine for detoxifying the uterus, making it capable of continuing pregnancy, preventing miscarriage and improving ovarian functions, which help to the release of matured and healthy egg for fertilization.

According to ayurveda, it is mostly suitable for women having increased or aggravated Vata dosha and pitta dosha. It is most suitable if a woman has any of following symptoms or manifestations:

  • Heartburn
  • Acid Reflux, GERD, Hyperacidity, Indigestion
  • Vertigo (a reeling sensation)
  • Heavy bleeding or bleeding with clots during menstruation
  • Heavy uterine bleeding
  • Pain or cramps during menstruation
  • Blemishes
  • Dark circles under eyes
  • Burning or heating sensation in feet or hands
  • Yellowish discoloration of the skin
  • Darkening of the skin
  • Weakness
  • Weight loss
  • Constipation with hard and dry stools
  • Bloating
  • Sleeplessness
  • Bitter or astringent taste of mouth

There can also be other symptoms, so your doctor can help you to analyze them properly and selecting Putrajeevak Beej if suitable for you.

Generally, Putrajeevak seeds and Shivlingi Seeds are advised to taken together. If you have symptoms of increased Pitta Dosha, then Shivlingi may not be suitable for you. If Shivlingi is required, then Shivlingi should be taken in minimum dose and Putrajeevak should be taken in maximum dose and both should be taken with milk.

Shivlingi is best for patients that have increased or aggravated Kapha symptoms like discharges of excess mucus, laziness, excessive salivation, drowsiness, the sweet or salty taste of mouth, and feeling of heaviness in the abdomen, edema, excessive sleep, numbness or rigidity in the body. In such cases, Shivlingi should not be taken with milk; water is a best suitable adjuvant in aggravated Kapha Dosha.

If Putrajeevak seed powder is taken wisely according to Dosha Analysis as per ayurvedic principles, then it will also help to normalize the hormones and regulate the menstrual cycle.

Recurrent Miscarriage (Habitual Abortions)

According to ayurveda, uterine weakness is the main cause of habitual abortions. In such cases, the uterus is likely to be incapable of continuing pregnancy. Putrajeevak Beej are best for such cases. It acts as a uterine tonic, provides strength to uterine linings, makes it capable of continuing pregnancy, prevents miscarriage, assists in a proper implantation, and helps to get a healthy baby. In such cases, the following combination is highly useful.

Dosage: 1 spoon around 4 to 5 grams along with lukewarm milk twice a day
When to Take: On empty stomach, an hour before meal or 3 hours after meal

Oligospermia

In dosage of 3 grams Putrajeevak Beej Powder along with milk is the best medicine for improving total sperm count and treating Oligospermia. It also improves spermatic motility and morphology.

Constipation

If the patient has constipation and has a bowel movement with pain due to hard and dry stool, then Putrajeevak is very helpful. In such case, it should be taken with warm milk in a dosage of 3 grams twice daily.

Putrajeevak Beej Dosage

The general dosage of Putrajeevak Beej is as follows.
Adults3 to 6 grams
Maximum Possible Dosage12 grams Per Day (in divided doses)
Doses: Twice a day with Milk
Best Time to Take: On empty stomach, an hour before meal or 3 hours after meal
Recommended Treatment Duration: Minimum 3 months (some patients may require treatment with Putrajeevak for 6 months or more depending on the health condition.)

Safety Profile

Putrajeevak is considerably safe for most individuals when taken as per its indications in appropriate dosage under professional supervision. It is most suitable for patients that have Vata or Pitta Dosha aggravation and less suitable for people with increased Kapha Dosha.
