Shatavari Guggulu

Shatavari Guggulu is used for pacifying aggravated Vata Dosha, strengthening the muscles, energizing the nerves, stimulating and restoring neuromuscular functions. Therefore, it is beneficial in all types of Vata Disorders categorized in ayurveda. It is mainly used for the treatment of hemiplegia and paralysis of any part of the body.

Preparation Method

Take a mortar and put Shuddha Guggul in it and add a little bit of Ghee. Pestle it and gradually add the fine powder of other herbs listed above. When the mixture is ready to make Vatakam (Laddu), then prepare Vatakam (Laddu) of each 8 grams.

Shatavari Guggulu Benefits & Uses

Shatavari Guggulu is the best ayurvedic medicine for patients suffering from hemiplegia. In some cases, the recovery from hemiplegia is very slow. In such cases, it speeds up the recovery process and improves the movement of limbs, sensation, mental ability and speech.

It improves blood circulation and boosts blood and oxygen supply to the brain and all parts of the body. It improves circulation to the ischemic area in the brain, which helps to hasten the healing process of the damaged area. It helps to preserve and restore the neuromuscular functions. It gives strength to the muscles and improves the movement of the lower and upper limbs.

Shatavari Guggulu Dosage

The general dosage of Shatavari Guggulu is as follows.
Children¼ to ½ Vatakam (Laddu)
Adults1 to 2 Vatakam (Laddu)
Maximum Possible Dosage4 Vatakam (Laddu)
Doses: 2 Doses – Twice a day with equal amount of water
Adjuvant: Warm Milk is more preferable, otherwise it can also be taken with warm water.
Best Time to Take: On an empty stomach, or 1 hour before a meal or 2 hours after a meal.

Note

The classical dosage of Shatavari Guggulu for adults is in form of Vatakam (8 to 16 grams), which seems to be very high. Generally, one Vatakam (8 grams) two times a day is sufficient dosage for patients suffering from loss of neuromuscular functions or paralysis. In addition, it does not work in the dosage less than it. This dosage is well-tolerated in most cases.

Shatavari Guggulu is considerably safe for most individuals when taken as per its indications in appropriate dosage under professional supervision.

Side Effects of Shatavari Guggulu

However, Shatavari, Gokshura, and Saunf prevent aggravation of Pitta in patients suffering from Vata Disorders and paralysis.

In some cases, especially patients also suffering from Pitta Aggravation Symptoms can experience some side effects such as burning sensation, heartburn, restlessness, vertigo and may also feel the excess heat in the body due to other ingredients in Shatavari Guggulu.

In such cases, it should not be given until all symptoms of Pitta aggravation subside. Alternatively, it should be used in reduced dosage along with other medicines acting on Pitta Dosha.

Pregnancy & Lactation

The safety profile of Shatavari Guggulu is not well established for pregnant women. Consult an ayurvedic physician before using Shatavari Guggulu during pregnancy.

Shatavari Guggulu is likely to be safe to consume by lactating mothers. There are no adverse effects reported with the use of Shatavari Guggulu in lactating mothers and breastfeeding babies.

Contraindications

There are no absolute contraindications for Shatavari Guggulu.
