Sukumara Leham (Sukumaram Lehyam) – Sukumaram Rasayana

Sukumara Leham (also called Sukumaram Lehyam and Sukumaram Rasayana) nourishes the body and improves the complexion of the skin. It is used for the treatment of the abnormal growths or tumors, hernia, abscesses, abdominal distension, hemorrhoids, disorders related to male and female reproductive system, Vata disorders, edema, abdominal diseases, gout, spleen disorders and constipation.

Furthermore, Sukumara Leham provides relief from abdominal pain, menstrual disorders, polycystic ovarian disease (ovarian cysts), uterine fibroids, and polycystic kidney disease. The three months regular course with Sukumaram Lehyam helps to cure these problems.

Preparation Method

Take KWATH DRAVYA and water. Make a decoction and reduce it to the 8th part of the liquid. Now, filter the decoction.

Now, add jaggery, castor oil, Ghee, Milk and all other ingredients. Boil it again and cook it until it becomes thick having Avaleha (Jam) like consistency.

Now, remove it from heat. Stir the mixture until its temperature comes down to room temperature. Now, preserve Sukumaram Rasayana in food grade containers.

Sukumara Leham Uses & Benefits

Sukumara Leham mainly acts on uterus, abdominal organs, urinary bladder, and kidneys. It is mainly used for the tumor or abnormal growths, cysts, and abscesses occurring anywhere in the body in addition to these organs. Generally, it is very helpful for ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids.

Ovarian Cysts

The fluid-filled sacs within the ovaries are ovarian cysts. A 3 months course with Sukumara Leham and Chandraprabha Vati helps to eliminate ovarian cysts.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

In most cases with PCOS, amenorrhea or oligomenorrhea are common problems. Many patients have cysts in the ovaries and suffering from irregular and scanty periods. In such cases, Sukumara Leham can be used along with Chandraprabha Vati, Kanchanar guggul, and Kumaryasava. Some patients with amenorrhea may also require Agnitundi Vati or Kasisadi vati or Raja Pravartini Vati in addition to these medicines.

Uterine Fibroids

In ayurveda, Sukumara Leham is a drug of choice for Uterine Fibroids. Along with Kanchanar Guggulu and Chandraprabha Vati or Arogyavardhini Vati, it helps to reduce the size of uterine fibroids. The long-term treatment varies from 3 to 6 months can help to completely remove the fibroid. If heavy bleeding occurs due to fibroids, then AshokarishtaAmla (Indian Gooseberry), Licorice (Yashtimadhu), Shatavari, Praval Pishti, and Mukta Pishti should also be used along with Sukumara Leham.

Endometriosis

In ayurveda, Sukumara Leham is the drug of choice for endometriosis. It helps to reduce inflammation and pelvic pain. It prevents retrograde menstruation by acting on Apana Vayu. It promotes elimination and flow of Apana Vayu. Thus, it also acts to improve menstruation and flow of menstrual periods preventing backward cell flow. Secondly, it also improves immunity and prevents immunologic dysfunction, which might also be the cause of endometriosis. Third, it prevents abnormal growths occurring anywhere in the body including pelvic organs or fallopian tubes. In these cases, Sukumara Leham should be used for at least 6 months along with other medicines according to symptoms and dominant Dosha. If the patient has heavy bleeding, burning sensation or other Pitta Symptoms, then AshokarishtaAmla (Indian Gooseberry), Licorice (Yashtimadhu), Shatavari, Praval Pishti, and Mukta Pishti should also be used along with Sukumara lehyam.

Flatulence & Intestinal Spasms

Sukumara Leham reduces gas formation in the intestines and increases its elimination. It gives relief from flatulence, intestinal gas, abnormally increased bowel sounds and intestinal spasms.

Hernia

According to ayurveda, increased intra-abdominal pressure is a common cause of a hernia that indicates increased Vata in the abdominal cavity. Sukumara Leham reduces intra-abdominal pressure and prevents the abnormal protrusion of intestines through the abdominal wall. It also strengthens the muscles that hold the organs in their place.

Sukumara Leham Dosage

The general dosage of Sukumara Leham is as follows.
Toddler (Age: 1 – 3 yrs)1 to 2.5 grams
Preschooler (3 – 5 yrs)2.5 to 3.75 grams
Grade-schooler (5 – 12 yrs)3.75 to 5 grams
Teenager (13 -19 yrs)5 to 10 grams
Adults (19 to 60 yrs)10 to 15 grams
Doses: 2 Doses per day
Best Time to Take: 45 minutes before food or 2 hours after food
Adjuvant: Eat it without any adjuvant or with warm milk; If Kapha symptoms are dominant, then take it with hot water.

In ayurveda, Sukumara Leham is used during pregnancy for nourishing the mother and developing a baby. It is also used to relieve intestinal gas, abdominal pain, and constipation occurring in pregnant women. However, the safety of Sukumara Leham is not fully clear. Consult an ayurvedic physician before using Sukumaram Lehyam during pregnancy.

Sukumara Leham is likely to be safe to consume by lactating mothers. There are no adverse effects reported with the use of Sukumaram Rasayana in lactating mothers and breastfeeding babies.
