Cough Management with Talisadi Churna

Talisadi Churna is effective in both types of cough – Productive and Non-productive cough. Due to high content of Misri (crystallized sugar lumps), it becomes more useful in Non-productive cough.

However, the other ingredients in Talisadi Churna have antitussive, mucolytic and expectorant action, which make it effective in productive cough as well.

In both conditions, a proper use of adjuvant is required.

In dry cough (non-productive cough), one should take it with Ghee and honey mixing in ratio 2:1 i.e. if Ghee is 3 grams then honey should be 1.5 grams.

Myth – 1: Nowadays, many people refuse to take Talisadi Churna with Ghee due to some myths that Ghee will increase their cholesterol level, but current research studies have shown Ghee is healthy fat.

Myth – 2: Second myth is mixing Ghee with Honey in any amount will become poison. Yes, it is true when Ghee and Honey mixed in equal amounts. Mixing Ghee and honey in unequal amount is possibly safe, as Ayurveda science itself recommends it as adjuvant for many ayurvedic medicines.

In productive cough, Talisadi Churna liquefies the thick mucus and helps coughing up the sputum from the lungs due to expectorant action. Due to its antitussive and mucolytic properties, Talisadi Churna reduces sputum production and reduces the already formed mucus in the lungs. Therefore, it clears the lungs and eliminates the wheezing sounds present in such patients. In productive cough, it should be used with honey.
