Triphala for Weight Loss (Obesity)
Triphala is a simple preparation, but it gives awesome benefits in weight loss. It reduces visceral fat and cellulite.
How does Triphala work in Weight loss (Obesity)?
Triphala has effects on fat metabolism. It increases fat burning by rectifying the metabolism in the body. In obese people, bones are weak because the metabolism of fat is not correct, according to ayurvedic science.
According to ayurveda, there are mainly seven types DHATUs (Tissues) in the body, which are simultaneously responsible for making next DHATU. For example, RASA DHATU (Lymph) metabolizes and makes RAKTA DHATU. RAKTA DHATU (Blood) metabolizes and makes MAMSA DHATU (Muscles). MAMSA DHATU metabolizes and makes MEDHA DHATU (Fats). When MEDHA DHATU metabolizes, the formation of ASTHI DHATU takes place.
According to this concept, there is a problem in metabolism of MAMSA DHATU to MEDHA DHATU and MEDHA DHATU to ASTHI DHATU, which ultimately cause accumulation of the fat in the body and makes your bones weaker.
According to recent studies, obese people have weak bones, which supports ayurvedic concept of weaker bones on obese people.
Triphala rectifies this cycle of metabolism in the body, so it reduces body weight. Its use also makes bones stronger and increases bone mineral density in obese people. Therefore, according to practical observation, the concept of ayurveda regarding DHATU metabolism is correct.
We also found weaker bones and low bone mineral density in people with obesity. Treating with Triphala reduces belly (abdominal) fat as well as increases bone mineral density.

Sir
Acc. to my doctor I am suffering from Pitta aggravation associated with an increase in Vata. I take Arogyavardhini Vati and Shatavari for my stomach problem. I have periods twice in a month problem. I take Triphala with Isabgol then my constipation gets relieved. But only with Isabgol, am still constipated. My doctor stopped to take Triphala. Is Triphala harmful in my case? What is the alternative?
Triphala has mild eccritic action, so it promotes discharge or ejection of waste matter from the body. Isabgol has bulk-forming laxative. If you are constipated even with Isabgol, then it might be a case of intestinal weakness and reduced peristaltic movement. In such case, medicine that acts on the liver and promotes bile discharge should also be taken.
Alternatively, Gulkand should also be beneficial in your case because it also has a strengthening action on the intestine.

I am retired vegetarian 73 years age male. My old and long time problem is Constipation. I have tried many times to ease Constipation with Triphala, but end up with more severe Constipation. Why is this so? As a result, I rely on 2 to 3 tablets of Mal Shuddhi Vati each night before bed time, then only my next day happens to be “feel good”.
Advice me, how to take Triphala, with what adjuvant, etc to avoid dependency on Mal Shuddhi Vati?
The best adjuvant for triphala is Cow’s Ghee in your case. You should also drink warm milk 30 minutes after taking Triphala. You should also improve your diet for getting good results. Include more fruits, vegetables, and salad in your diet.

Hello Ayur Times! I have a query regarding triphala that beside other health benefits it can also be used for teeth brushing as it is widely used in many ayurvedic toothpastes. But when used in the powder form it stains the teeth and the toothbrush due to tannin content in it. Are the tannins harmful to the tooth enamel? Please guide me on this. Thank you & regards.
Tannins can be harmful to the tooth enamel when used in excess and on regular basis for months. However, ayurvedic toothpastes contain a minimal amount of Triphala. In this quantity, it does not cause any harm. In fact, it helps to kill microbes, prevent infections and treats pyorrhea.
