Turmeric Tea Health Benefits & Side Effects

Drinking a cup of tea is the most relaxing thing you can do. Benefits of consuming turmeric tea are immeasurable. The widely used medicinal herb, turmeric (Haldi) has been used for centuries to cure a variety of diseases.

How to Make Turmeric Tea

Instructions

Follow the directions below.

  1. Boil 2 cups of plain water in the pot.
  2. Add ½ tsp of turmeric to the boiling water.
  3. Allow it to simmer for 10 minutes so that water absorbs all the beneficial properties of turmeric.
  4. Leave it for 10 to 20 minutes or until it becomes warm.
  5. Now, add 2 tsp. honey to the turmeric herbal tea.

Other Optional Additives

You can also add following herbs and spices in the turmeric tea to enhance its anti-inflammatory potential and flavor.

  • Cinnamon (ground) = 1 tsp.
  • Fresh Ginger (minced) = 1 inch
  • Peppercorn = 6

 

Add these ingredients are added along with turmeric powder in the boiling water. All other steps are same as given above.

Note

If you are preparing Turmeric Tea for therapeutic benefits, honey as a sweetener is best for this purpose. However, you can also use sugar and other sweetener in place of honey. You should add honey when turmeric tea is warm because it would help to preserve important nutrients of honey as well. You can add sugar in hot tea, as it has negligible nutritious value.

Turmeric tea interferes with chemotherapy, warn the health specialists. If you are suffering from gastrointestinal disorders, bile-duct blockages, gallstones, then, stay cautious.

Pregnant woman cannot take turmeric tea as it can induce abortion.

Safety of turmeric tea is not yet established and so children must avoid it.

Drug Interactions

Those who are under chemotherapy must avoid turmeric tea. It can reduce the effect of chemotherapy.

It interacts greatly with antiplatelets, anticoagulants, CELIPROLOL, DOXORUNICIN, MIDAZOLAM, and the medications related to diabetes, cholesterol regulators and anti-inflammatory drugs.
