What is Qurs?
Qurs are tablet form of Unani Medicine made of natural ingredients including herbs and Qiwam (sugar syrup).
Qurs is a solid form of Unani medication. It is available in the form of tablets. The tablets are usually flat but may also be biconvex. The shape of the tablets is often triangular, round, or quadrangular.
These tablets can be made manually by rolling the mixture of its ingredients using palms. Nowadays, the tablets can be made mechanically with the help of machines, which help in rolling the ingredients to obtain the exact shape and size of the tablets. Most people consider pills and Qurs of Unani medication to be the same. However, the similarity between these 2 forms of medications is only in their shape. Qurs are easier to chew as compared to the pills. The Qurs and pills offer several advantages over the other forms of medications as given below:
- Since Qurs and pills have a fixed shape and size, it becomes easier to maintain the exact dose of the medication.
- The Qurs and pills can be easily coated with sugar or some other agents, which can help to alter the taste of the product. Hence, they can be easily consumed by the patients without having to bear any unpleasant taste.
- Qurs and pills are easy to swallow. Hence, they are convenient to use for the patients.
Preparation Method of Qurs
Qiwam, the basic solution of sugar having a particular consistency, is prepared by mixing sugar in the required amount of water. This solution is boiled till a semisolid consistency of the syrup can be obtained. In some cases, honey and grape wine are used to prepare this solution. Later, the powders of the herbal ingredients are added to Qiwam to obtain the final product.
