Swarna Bhasma Benefits & Medicinal Uses

Swarna Bhasma is an Ayurvedic Traditional Medicine prepared with Pure Gold and useful in many chronic ailments. It is the drug of choice for resistant tuberculosis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Swarna Bhasma for Heart

Swarna bhasma is used in the treatment of heart diseases. It provides strength to the heart and heart muscles. It increases blood circulation to various parts of the heart, detoxifies the blood, and cleanses the coronary arteries. It prevents the heart from myocardial ischemia by maintaining the optimum flow of blood to the heart muscles. It is also beneficial for people reporting angina pain along with other medicines. In angina pectoris, Suvarna bhasma is used along with Shringa Bhasma and Arjuna (Terminalia Arjuna) Bark Powder, Arjunarishta or Arjuna Ksheer Pak (Arjuna Siddha Kshir).

How does Swarna Bhasma work in angina pectoris?

Chest pain or Angina pectoris occurs due to any obstruction, atherosclerosis or spasm of coronary arteries of the heart. Swarn bhasma along with Shringa bhasma reduces the atherosclerosis of arteries, relaxes blood vessels and removes the obstructions. However, Swarna bhasma cannot work alone in this condition, but it can provide strength to the heart. Therefore, Shringa bhasma is also necessary for chest pain.

Purifies the blood

The digestion process and the body system release many toxins. Some external factors also play a role for toxin accumulation in the body. Infections due to bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms release many toxins inside the body. Although we have antibiotics to cure the infectious diseases, but some toxins remain in the body, which produces other unexplained diseases later on. For releasing out these toxins, gold ash is used in Ayurveda. Sometimes, people suffer from diseases of unknown etiology. In these cases, Ayurveda treats them with Swarna bhasma and other medicines according to the predominance of dosha (Vata, Pitta & Kapha). Swarna bhasma purifies the blood and release toxins out of the body.

When a person has indigestion, loss of appetite, abdominal heaviness and distension, Swarna bhasma is given along with the fresh ginger juice.

Tuberculosis

Swarna Bhasma is a drug of choice in Ayurveda for tuberculosis (T.B.). It has antimicrobial, anti-toxin and antiviral effects in the body.  Swarna bhasma is beneficial in the initial stages of tuberculosis. It acts as a strong antibacterial agent and help to destroy the tubercular bacilli responsible or causing the infections.  It also reduces the symptoms caused by this condition such as fever, loss of muscle mass, weakness. It also improves the immunity of a person.

The ayurvedic preparations in which Swarna (gold) is the main ingredient are used for the treatment of tuberculosis and fever associated with the T.B. Ayurveda has explained many stages of tuberculosis according to the humor and tissue involved. Swarna bhasma is effective in the first and second stage of tuberculosis.

In the third stage, lesions in the lungs increase the loss of body tissue and decrease the strength of the person suffered from tuberculosis. In this stage, when a person suffers from a severe undernutrition, malabsorption of foods, loss of body strength, loss of lung tissue due to lesions caused by tubercle bacilli (mycobacterium tuberculosis), there is a no effective remedy in the Ayurveda. In modern science, it is long term resistant tuberculosis. All medications become ineffective and there are no chances of further improvement. However, Ayurveda does not cure the disease as well in such case, but the Swarna bhasma helps in reduction of the symptoms even in resistant tuberculosis. Further research studies are required to evaluate the fact.

Warning: However, this medicine should not be given during an acute attack of high fever as this may results in a rapid killing of the tubercular bacilli flowed by the release of toxins from them. This can lead to a sudden rise in temperature thereby worsening the symptoms.

Non-productive Cough

When a person suffers from a dry cough in which wheezing sound is present, the Swarna bhasma along with Shringa Bhasma, Praval Pishti, and Giloy Sat is beneficial to remove the thick sputum from the lungs and helps in easier breathing and manages dry non-productive cough.

Warnings & Precautions

According to Rasajalanidhi, Swarna Bhasma should not be taken along with Bilva (Bael – Aegle Marmelos) fruits. The reason behind it is not explained. It is a contradictory concept because the famous classical formulations such as Sutshekhar Ras contain both Swarna Bhasma and Bilva.

High-Grade Fever in Tuberculosis: When a person suffers from a high-grade fever in tuberculosis, Swarna bhasma should not be used in such case. High doses of the Swarna bhasma suddenly kill the tuberculosis bacteria and result in excessive toxin accumulation in the body produced by dead bacteria. The process of the toxin removal is slow, due to which it never let to lower the fever until these toxins are in the body. However, Swarna bhasma has blood purification effects, but this effect is slow and sequential. In such cases, Swarna bhasma should be used in very small amount i.e. 1 to 2 mg only along with other medicines.
